Biography

One day in June 2006, a man comes to check into their motel. Michael asks if he wants a king or two queens, and after he glances outside at his male companion, asks for two queens. Michael doesn't believe him, but Mom comes in. She asks for him to fix dinner for Asher, which he goes to do, grudgingly, telling Mom "Two queens" for the guest. That night, as they were sleeping in the same room, Michael sees something over Asher in a long black robe, but thinks he's having a nightmare.

The next morning the window is open, and Asher caught pneumonia. Asher is taken to the hospital, and Michael feels guilty because he should have made sure the window was latched. The two guys in the two queen room drive up, and the one guy talks with Michael about why he's upset. He promises that Michael's little brother getting sick isn't Michael's fault, even though it's his job to look after him. Mom comes out, heading for the hospital, and tells him to turn the no vacancy sign on, and that Denise is covering room service, so he's not to bother with any of the rooms. Michael wants to go see Asher, but the guy tells him to give his mom a break, that he's a big brother too and knows how Michael feels. The guy drives Mom to the hospital, and Michael heads back inside.

Later on the guy and his brother come into the office, telling this crazy story about something that came through the window to attack Asher, claiming it attacked his brother too. Michael asks if it was wearing a long black robe. The guy confirms it, that sometimes nightmares are real. They can kill it, but they need Michael's help. He's too scared, even if it hurts other kids.

After they leave, he thinks about it, and decides that if it's dead, maybe Asher will get better. He goes to their room to ask, but the guys don't know. Michael asks, since the guy is a big brother, if he'd do anything for his little brother? The guy says yeah, and Michael says me too. I'll help.

That night he's in bed while they set up the camera. The guy comes over to tell Michael that they'll come in with guns, and Michael will roll off the bed before they start to shoot. Michael asks that they not shoot him, and the guy promises. A real gunshot will be louder than the movies, so stay under the bed, cover his ears, and don't come out until they say so. Nothing will happen with Michael, he promises.

About 3am the creature opens the window and comes into the bedroom. Michael stays perfectly still until it comes right over top of them, then he pushes back into his pillows to get as far away from it as he can. The thing starts to glow from its mouth, energy draining from Michael, when the two guys come bursting through the door. Michael rolls off the bed and under it, as he was told, and there are a lot of gunshots. Then it's quiet, but Michael is told to sit tight. Next comes some crashing, another crash on Asher's bed, the thing attacked the younger brother, and the older brother shoots it. A few more gunshots, and then Michael crawled out. He looks at the younger brother, then the older one who protected him. That disgusting thing is lying on the floor, and thankfully the brothers cleaned it up.

The next morning Mom shows up. Michael asks how Ash is doing, and he's going to be fine. Michael's so relieved! Mom says all the other kids are going to be fine as well, although Dr. Hydecker must've been sick himself, since he wasn't there. Mom asks if anything happens, and glancing at the older brother slightly, Michael lies by saying the same old stuff. Mom offers to drive him to see Ash, and the older brother nods at him, so Michael takes off for the car. Mom drives them to the hospital, and Michael's so happy Ash is better!
