In April 2005, Vince and Holly Parker gets lost in southern Indiana, ends up in Burkitsville. They stop to eat at the cafe, and everyone ends up being so nice to them. When they came out of the cafe, Stacey gave them an apple pie. Harley and Stacey gives the couple directions back out to the interstate.
That's when their good luck stops, because the car just stops by the side of the road, and no cell reception. Vince sees a house through an orchard, and points out to Holly they can't just wait there. He starts walking, and she reluctantly follows. Partway across the orchard, they come across this strange scarecrow raised on a wooden post. Vince walks closer, teasingly saying, "Check it out. If I only had a brain…" She replies, "We wouldn't be lost." He comments how freaky the scarecrow is, while Holly claims it scares her. They start to walk again, when Holly sees the scarecrow move. She begs Vince to hurry. Then they hear a sound. Vince calls out, but no one responds. They start running, and Vince disappears. Holly is scared, and turns around to start running back. She trips and falls. Looking over, she sees Vince's mutilated body on the ground. She screams, then looks up at the scarecrow. It's coming for her.
