Jim Miller was married to the mother of his son, Max, until she burned to death on the ceiling of Max's nursery. He remarried, to a woman named Alice. He has a brother named Roger. He regularly beats his son Max, only now he does it where no one will see the bruises. |

Jim drives home one night, pulling into the garage and turning off the car's engine. Strangely, the garage door closes by itself, right before his car doors all self-lock. The ignition turns itself on, starting the car. Exhaust smoke begins to fill the garage. He tries to turn the ignition off, unlock the doors, block the vents to the car, kick the window out, all to no avail. He dies from carbon monoxide poisoning.
It is later revealed Max killed his father using telekinesis.
