Roger's brother Jim is found in the garage, having committed suicide. He comforts his sister-in-law during the time the police and paramedics are there, right after Jim's body is found.
The next day two priests show up at Jim's house, and Roger lets them in. He doesn't want them to pitch "Lord has a plan" thing to him, but Alice stops him. He excuses himself and leaves.
That night he is walking home when the priests show up at his door. He doesn't want their help, telling them to leave him alone. He manages to get into the secure apartment lobby where they can't follow, leaving them behind.
After walking inside his apartment, he opens a beer to start drinking. He then notices an open window, and closes and locks it. He continues unpacking his groceries, only the window is open again. After taking another swallow of beer, he attempts to close the window once more. It's stuck. He lays on his back on the windowsill, looking up at the window to see what the problem might be. The window slams shut, decapitating him.
Later it is revealed Max uses telekinesis to kill his uncle.
