History

Constance Welch's spirit kills unfaithful men, since she committed suicide after finding her husband unfaithful in Pilot - a Woman in White. She hitchhikes, asks to go home, and then kills them after coming on to them.

Constance killed her two children - a boy and a girl. Their spirits are waiting for her at home, dragging their mother into the afterlife when Sam brought Constance home.

In Dead in the Water Peter Sweeny was held underwater in the lake by Jake Devins and Bill Carlton until he was accidently killed, with his body being dumped in the lake. His spirit inhabits the lake, going after each of the families of the men, taking out all of the Carltons before Bill dies. Jake sacrifices himself to stop Peter's spirit.

Mary Worthington in Bloody Mary was murdered in front of a mirror, trying to expose a secret. Her spirit would punish those with deadly secrets when she was called by liquefying their eyes and killing them. After she tries to kill Sam and Dean, Dean turns a mirror back on her and she ends up killing her own spirit.

In Hook Man, Jacob Karns was a preacher in life, who killed wrongdoers - prostitutes. His spirit would go after wrongdoers to kill them. He was tied to his silver hook, which had been melted down for a silver cross. He was banished when Sam and Dean burned it.

After the evil that happened in their home 22 years ago, it left a wound that attracted an evil poltergeist that works on hurting people with the intent on killing. It attacks Jenny Cooper and her children Sadie and Ritchie When Sam and Dean, with Missouri, came into the house to cleanse it in Home, it seems to work; however, it comes back with a vengeance.

Mary Winchester's spirit also inhabits the home in Home. She is seen as a figure on fire for the most part, only revealing her true self to her boys when the poltergeist grabs Sam. After talking briefly with the boys, she tells the poltergeist to let her son go - before sacrificing herself in taking it out.

In Asylum, the many spirits of the patients roam the halls of the Roosevelt Asylum after they rioted and were killed. Since Dr. Stanford Ellicott was also killed in the riot, the ghosts of the patients now are trying to communicate with people who enter the Asylum to find the body of the doctor, whispering "137".

Also in Asylum, Dr. Stanford Ellicott ghost continues to experiment on people, helping them to express their rage in the hopes of curing it. He would attack people in the basement; they would go home and kill. After attacking Sam, Dr. Ellicott attacks Dean, only Dean manages to complete the salt and burn of Dr. Ellicott's body.

Cyrus Dorian takes out his anger in being jilted by Audrey by murdering black people, until he, himself, is killed. His spirit inhabits his black truck in Route 666 and when roused from slumber, the truck begins to kill the men who had murdered Cyrus, before going after Audrey's daughter, Cassie. Salt and burning the body didn't dispel Cyrus' spirit, so the truck's spirit is finally dispelled when it crosses into hallowed ground, trying to attack the Dean in the Impala.

The spirit of Isaiah Merchant inhabits the painting of his family in Provenance. He took the blame for the murder of his family, but he knew it was Melanie's fault. After his death, his spirit tries to warn about Melanie, by looking at her and by changing the painting inside the painting to be a mausoleum, pointing to where her remains are.

Isaiah's adopted daughter Melanie also inhabits the same painting in Provenance. At night her spirit climbs out and kills by slitting throats. She goes after Sam and Sarah Blake, but before she can kill them Dean burns her hair on her preserved doll at the mausoleum.

Dean was a spirit for a time in In My Time of Dying, as his body lay close to death. The Reaper came for him, but before he left with her, John made a deal to bring Dean back to life.

H.H. Holmes was the serial killer in life, and continued to capture and kill his preferences of young blonde women in No Exit. After Holmes takes Jo, Dean and Sam trap Holmes in a circle of salt in his sewer, and pour cement to keep Holmes there forever.


Characteristics

Most spirits appear as they did when they were still living. Many times the spirit's skin takes on the grey, waxy look of death. If the spirit's death was violent, the fatal wounds can sometimes be visible.


Powers and Abilities

Not all spirits/ghosts have all abilities.
